Discover and Explore the National Trails System Digital Assets

If you’ve ever wanted to view images of national trails, there is now one central place to find pictures of them: NPGallery. The NPGallery Digital Asset Management System is the National Park Service’s central online repository to store digital assets, including photos, illustrations, audio files, videos, and documents.

The National Trails System is announcing the launch of their NPGallery Digital Archive featuring images of the 23 NPS administered national scenic trails and national historic trails, and a selection of national recreation trails located in NPS areas. This is the first time the National Trails System has offered a unified collection of national trail images.

NPGallery visitors will find National Trails System photos separated by trail type: national scenic trails, national historic trails, and national recreation trails. There is also a drop-down menu to search by trail name alphabetically. After choosing a trail, click on an image and select ‘Image Description and Downloads’ to read the caption, view metadata, and download. The photos included in the collection have been contributed by each of the national trails because they showcase trail tread, scenic views, historical sites, trail activities and more.

Most images in the digital archive are in the public domain to use with proper credit to NPS. However, please be sure to check the ‘Copyright’, ‘Photo Credit’, and ‘Constraints Information’ in the metadata to ensure proper use of a photo.

The National Trails System invites you to discover and explore the Digital Archive to see the diversity of our national trails. View the National Trails System NPGallery Digital Archive at https://npgallery.nps.gov/nts.
