Declaration House Rehabilitation Project

Location

The Declaration House is located on the southwest corner of 7th and Market Streets in Philadelphia, PA.

Project Overview

The Declaration House rehabilitation project at Independence National Historical Park will rehabilitate and preserve a key historic structure and landscaped courtyard at the corner of Market and 7th Streets in Philadelphia.

In July 2025, the National Park Service (NPS) initiated the project. The work is being carried out with the help from skilled NPS maintenance teams from the Historic Preservation Training Center.

The NPS Historic Preservation Training Center Team will:
  • Repair brick paving, site fencing, drainage infrastructure, lighting, and replace eight wood benches in the courtyard
  • Clean and repair the brick and concrete building exterior
  • Replace damaged exterior glass
  • Repair and repaint wood windows
  • Replace the roof, roof drains, and gutters

Project Timeline

The project will be completed by December 31, 2025.
