African American Civil Rights Network

The Copeland African American Museum is located on the campus of Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia. The museum’s collection spans more than 150 years and tells the rich and diverse history of African Americans in the wider region.

Inspired by the profound contributions that African Americans have made to U.S. culture, the museum’s gallery hosts rotating exhibits usingitems from its large collection. It also provides a variety of resources including educational materials and programs that highlight the cultural and historical contributions of African Americans and promote understanding and appreciation of their experiences and perspectives.

Copeland African American Museum became part of the African American Civil Rights Network in 2023.

The African American Civil Rights Network recognizes the African American Civil Rights Movement in the United States and the sacrifices made by those who fought against discrimination and segregation. Created by the African American Civil Rights Act of 2017, and coordinated by the National Park Service, the Network tells the stories of the people, places, and events of the U.S. African American Civil Rights Movement through a collection of public and private resources to include properties, facilities, and programs.
