- Organizers of two fireworks shows have been issued permits to celebrateIndependence Day at Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
- Fireworks schedule: 9:15 p.m. Sunday, July 2 at the south end ofOcracoke Island and 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 4 at Cape HatterasNational Seashore's Avon Fishing Pier.

- Cape Hatteras National Seashore visitors and adjacent homeowners are reminded that it is illegal to detonate fireworks, or have fireworks in your possession, on all land managed by the National Park Service, including all beaches from the southern Nags Head border through Hatteras and Ocracoke islands. The fireworks shows held at the south end of Ocracoke Island and the Avon Fishing Pier have gone through a formal review process and received special use permits from the National Park Service.
- Bodie Island Lighthouse full moon climbs are back! Climbs are scheduledfor July 3, Aug. 1, Aug. 30 and Sept. 29. Tickets go on sale at 7 a.m. theday of climb at www.recreation.gov/ticket/252034/ticket/10253582. There are only eight people allowed per climb, so tickets sell out very quickly.
- The Ocracoke boardwalk across the highway from the Pony Pasture will be closed from June 27-29, for concrete walkway repair work. Restrooms, parking and lifeguard services are available at the Ocracoke Beach Access, located several miles south of the Pony Pasture.
