Expanding Access to Black and Indigenous Narratives of the Potomac

Building on previous work to recognize and interpret the significance of the Piscataway Park landscape to the Piscataway people, the Accokeek Foundation will curate a collection of oral histories focusing on BIPOC fishing industry workers to create effective interpretive materials. With permission of interviewees, these materials will be added to a publicly accessible, online archive of oral histories. This effort will also result in wayside exhibits showing an expansive Potomac River heritage; telling the story of how the river has shaped people and been shaped by people over time.
