Administration serves as the "business office" for Valles Caldera National Preserve. Its principal functions include human resources, purchasing, property management, budget administration, contracting, payroll, technology support (computers, networks, park radios, telephone systems) and mail.

In 2022, the Administration team at Valles Caldera National Preserve began merging with Bandelier National Monument to promote collaboration and operational efficiency between parks. This merging into Shared Services will continue throughout 2023.

Valles Caldera’s information technology (IT) personnel installed Starlink satellite internet at the Entrance Station, Ranger Station, and Facility Operations Center, which roughly doubled the internet speeds previously available to park staff on the Preserve. The park’s phone system was also upgraded and countless IT Helpdesk tickets resolved. This team was also instrumental in bringing the park’s webcam online, which has proven to be an exceptional resource for visitors and staff alike.

Human resources personnel onboarded 9 new employees at Valles Caldera and provided dependable and varied employee support for a staff of approximately 50. Our Cartographic Technician created 72 maps for incident management/emergency response, park planning efforts, and visitor orientation.

The budget team ensured responsible allocation and accounting of Valles Caldera National Preserve’s $5.1-million annual budget with a successful closeout at the end of the fiscal year.
