The National Trails Office is proud to announce that the El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail website has been translated into Spanish. This is the first fully translated Spanish website for a national trail, which is significant because of the trail’s extensive multicultural and international history.

El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail is one of 19 national historic trails in the National Trails System, administered by the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Manangement. It extends 404 miles between El Paso, Texas to Santa Fe, New Mexico, while the original historic trail extended to Mexico City. El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro is recognized throughout the United States of America and Los Estados Unidos de México as a timeless route of trade and cultural exchange. Trade and travel on this trail shaped individual lives and communities, affecting the settlement and development of the greater Southwest. Recognition of this route as an international historic trail commemorates the multicultural connections and interactions between American Indians, Mexican, Black, Spanish, and other European cultures then and now, and contributes in a meaningful way to eliminating cultural barriers and enriching the lives of people along El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro.

Consistent with the priorities of America the Beautiful Program to achieve more equitable access to nature and its benefits for all people in America, providing accurate and accessible translations for national trail websites is the first step to making national trails such as El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro more inclusive to people of a Spanish-speaking background. The translation of this website also features the Spanish version of the Junior Ranger program, Programa de Guardaparques Juveniles, offering Spanish-speaking children the opportunity to earn the trail’s Junior Park Ranger badge! The website will continue adding news and information in Spanish as it becomes available.

A huge thanks to the NPS Office of Communications, Nicole Segnini from the Latino Heritage Internship Program, and Angelica Sanchez-Clark, Historian for National Trails, for making this website possible. Congratulations on this enormous accomplishment!
