Date: April 7, 2008

The National Park Service has awarded a concession contact for year-round operation and management of the El Portal Market, a grocery and general merchandise store located within the El Portal Administrative Site adjacent to Yosemite National Park. The contract, which carries a term of six years, was awarded to Kirstie Dunbar-Kari, d.b.a Kari & Sons, of El Portal, California. Operations will commence following refurbishments to the building which are currently being undertaken by the National Park Service.

The El Portal Market has been a fixture in the small community of El Portal, California for as long as locals can remember. The market was previously operated by Vaughn, Vaughn and Carter, LLP, and particularly its principal, Hugh Carter, under concession contracts issued by the National Park Service since 1966.
