Delayed Opening of Kennecott
Due to lingering snow and frozen water lines, the park has delayed the opening of Kennecott NHL visitor center until June 1. The rest of Kennecott/McCarthy is open. Most NPS buildings will not be open until June 1. More »
Subsistence Hunting
Both federal subsistence and State of Alaska sport hunting are permitted in Wrangell-St. Elias National Preserve. State sport harvests are regulated by the Alaska Board of Game while federal subsistence harvests are regulated by the Federal Subsistence Board. To be eligible to hunt in the park or preserve under federal subsistence regulations, you must be considered a local rural resident.
