Wolf Trap hires many temporary summer employees to assist with the annual performance season that runs from late-May to mid-September.

For the 2008 performance season, job announcements will be posted on www.usajobs.gov in February and March 2008. Applicants should read the vacancy announcements closely for directions on how to apply for a Federal position.

Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) - The STEP program is designed to hire students* into Federal positions without the process of applying under vacancy announcements. Students may submit a resume or a Federal Application, OF-612, at anytime during the hiring season (Feb - May).

*A student is defined as: An individual who is enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) seeking student and is taking at least a half-time academic/vocational/Technical course load in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2 or 4 years college or university, graduate or professional school. Half-time is determined by the school in which the student is enrolled. Students must submit a letter from school verifying status (at least ½ time) in a degree program, provide original transcripts, and must maintain a 2.5 grade point average.

Jobs Available in 2008

There are so many exciting summer jobs at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. Here's a brief description of the jobs that will be available for the 2008 summer season.

  • Ushers help seat patrons and enforce house rules.
  • Maintenance Workers help with parking operations and keep the park safe and clean.
  • Stage Door Aides are the support staff for the production office.
  • Day Visitor Use Assistants wear a Park Ranger uniform, give interpretive programs, and help at the Children's Theatre-in-the-Woods.
  • Evening Visitor Use Assistants wear a Park Ranger uniform and help with crowd control, parking operations, and emergency situations for performances at the Filene Center.
  • A Theater Specialist mixes sound and helps with stage management at the Children's Theatre-in-the-Woods.

For anyone without a lot of work/volunteer experience, there are volunteer opportunities at Wolf Trap's Children's Theatre-in-the-Woods that can boost your resumé. Visit Wolf Trap's Volunteer Website for details and to apply on-line.

A technical theater internship is available at the Children's Theatre-in-the-Woods. Interns work behind-the-scenes with the theatre specialist at the Children's Theatre and learn about stage management, mixing sound for live theatre, and much more. E-mail the park for additional information.

Colonel Nelson Miles of the 64th New York Infantry was a volunteer officer at Antietam and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery at Chancellorsville. After the Civil War he remained in the Army and by the Spanish American War in 1898 he was the Commanding General of the U.S. Army.
