Women's Rights National Historical Park celebrates African-American History Month by offering two special programs in February, 2013.
Park Ranger John Stoudt will present an illustrated talk entitled "Harriet Tubman's Civil Wars" at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 2, at the Women's Rights NHP Visitor Center at 136 Fall Street in Seneca Falls. Ranger Stoudt will highlight Harriet Tubman's actions during the Civil War era, including her activism with the abolitionist community in Auburn, New York. An encore presentation of this program will be offered at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 16.
Ranger Stoudt will present a different interpretive program entitled "Seneca Falls Links to African-American Legacies" at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 9, at the Women's Rights NHP Visitor Center at 136 Fall Street in Seneca Falls. This program will highlight the role of Frederick Douglass in the Civil War era and the legacies of several African-American women, including Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth. This program will be offered in conjunction with the National Women's Hall of Fame. An encore presentation of this program will be offered at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 23.
Women's Rights National Historical Park commemorates and preserves the sites associated with the First Women's Rights Convention, held in 1848 in Seneca Falls. "We are proud to be part of the National Park system, and we invite everyone to join us in celebrating the legacies of African-Americans," said Superintendent Tammy Duchesne. "During African-American History Month we honor and commemorate their contributions to our nation's culture and history," added Superintendent Duchesne.
