Ferry service for passengers and vehicles is the only means of getting to and from St. John.

Once on St. John, the only part of Virgin Islands Coral Reef National Monument accessible by land is in Hurricane Hole. To get to Hurricane Hole, follow route 10 from Curz Bay to Estate Hermitage. The Monument extends eastward from Estate Hermitage to Haulover Bay along the southern shoreline of the Island.

Ft Matanzas is built with the unique limestone, "coquina". Made of many tiny shell fragments and sand lightly bound together with calcite, it has survived cannon balls and hurricanes but is very fragile to human contact. Ft Matanzas National Monument, Florida
