Visitor Centers to be Closed on Thanksgiving

The visitor centers at Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 25. Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site will be closed in its entirety.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park will still be open and primitive camping is available. The park's South Unit backcountry areas and hiking trails will be closed on Thursday to accommodate the park's elk reduction effort. Front country nature trails and the scenic drive will remain open as will the entire North Unit. The grounds at Knife River Indians Villages will also be open to visitors.

"We encourage visitors to enjoy their national parks during the holiday season," said Theodore Roosevelt Superintendent Valerie Naylor. "The parks are quiet at this time of year, but there are plenty of opportunities to go for a hike or enjoy excellent wildlife viewing."

The visitor centers in the three North Dakota national parks are closed only three days per year – Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day.
