Springfield Armory National Historic Site
Philadelphia - National Park Service Northeast Regional Director Dennis R. Reidenbach has named James Woolsey to be Superintendent of Springfield Armory National Historic Site in Springfield, Massachusetts. Currently serving as Director of Interpretation and Visitor Services for the American Battle Monuments Commission in Paris, France, Woolsey will assume his new duties in March of 2012. He replaces Michael Quijano-West, who recently was named Superintendent of Salem Maritime National Historic Site and Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site in Massachusetts.
"James Woolsey's unique experiences make him the ideal superintendent for Springfield Armory" said Reidenbach. "His international experience managing complex programs and interpreting challenging subjects has been excellent preparation for managing the Armory's unique resources."
"I am excited to tell the story of Springfield Armory National Historic Site" said Woolsey about his appointment. "My wife's great grandfather worked at the Springfield Armory for nearly 30 years starting in 1880. It will be a return to family roots. It is an honor to be selected to protect this important historical site."
Woolsey holds a Bachelors Degree in History from Humboldt State University and a Masters Degree in History from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
