Laws & Policies

In accordance with regulations and the delegated authority provided in Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter I, Parts 1 through 7, authorized by Title 16, United States Code, Section 3; the following regulatory provisions are established for the proper management, protection, government and public use of the portion of Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service. These discretionary regulations are in addition to the other regulations published in Title 36 CFR, Chapter I, Parts 2 through 7. Unless otherwise stated, these regulatory provisions apply in addition to the requirements contained in 36 CFR, Chapter 1.

36 CFR §1.4 – What terms do I need to know?

In addition to definitions found in 36 CFR § 1.4(a), the following definitions, created by the Superintendent, apply to all parts of this Compendium for park wide consistency:

 

36 CFR §1.5 – Closures and Public Use Limits

(a)(1) Establish, for all or a portion of a park area, a reasonable schedule of visiting hours, impose public use limits, or close all or a portion of a park area to all public use or to a specific use or activity.

The following visiting hours and public use limits are established for all or for the listed portions of Christiansted National Historic Site/ Buck Island Reef National Monument/ Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve. [Note: Due to public health and safety requirements during this Covid-19 pandemic, operational adjustments will be necessary and will affect visitor center and park site openings. See the CHRI/BUIS/SARI websites for current updates about such changes: https://www.nps.gov/chri; https://www.nps.gov/buis; https://www.nps.gov/sari].  The following closures are established for all or a portion of the Park to all public use or to a certain use or activity:

 

       

(a)(2) The following areas have been designated for a specific use or activity, or have been imposed conditions or restriction on a use or activity: 

 

36 CFR §1.6 – Permits

(a) When authorized by regulations set forth in this chapter, the superintendent may issue a permit to authorize an otherwise prohibited or restricted activity or impose a public use limit.

(f) The following is a compilation of those activities for which a permit from the superintendent is required.
