Did You Know?
Hessians? Most of the German soldiers rented by Britain's King George III were from the province of Hesse-Cassel. Americans called them Hessians. At the Battles of Saratoga, most of the German soldiers were from Brunswick; they were Brunswickers, but we Americans called all the Germans "Hessians".
