Climate Change in New England

A Free Lecture Series Presented by Salem Sound Coastwatch and the National Park Service.

There is no doubt that climate change is a complex subject and is challenging us in ways we've never seen before. Based on what scientists understand, the changes we are seeing today are far more rapid than anything that has occurred in our planet's history. Join us for "Climate Change in New England" - a 5-part lecture series - to learn from experts how climate change is affecting our New England region, what is being done about it, and how you can help.

When: The series, interrupted by the shutdown, reconvenes on Tuesday, November 19th, 7:30-9:00 PM. Doors open at 7:00 PM. We hope to see you there!

November 19 - "How is Climate Change affecting our National Parks - and the National Park Service?" – Jonathan Parker of the Salem Maritime National Historic Site will share what the National Park Service response to climate change.

December 3 – "A Piece of the Carbon Mitigation Puzzle: America's Offshore Wind Energy Opportunity" - Fara Courtney, Director of US Offshore Wind Collaborative will examine the status of the offshore wind industry globally, and the potential, progress and challenges in this country, with a particular focus on activity in the Northeast.

December 10 - "Preparing for Coastal Climate Change: How Do We Assess Vulnerability and Plan to Adapt?" - Dr. Paul Kirshen, Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering, UNH, is a climate expert in developing strategies to help adapt coastal urban infrastructures to address climate change.
