Tourism to San Juan National Historic Site Creates 77 6 milllion In Economic Benefits Report Shows Visitor Spending Supports 985 Jobs In Local Economy
San Juan, Puerto Rico- A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 1,382,906 visitors for San Juan National Historic Site in 2014 spent 77.6 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 985 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of 94.4 million.

Chavez announced today that San Juan National Historic Site will host a week of activities for visitors during the annual National Park Week celebration. “The staff of San Juan National Historic Site have put together an ambitious week of diverse activities for our visitors this year to celebrate National Park Week” said Superintendent Chavez. “We plan on having something for everyone to enjoy, from Living History (firing demonstrations) and Ranger led programs, such as Tunnel Tours, Lantern Light Tours, Dungeon Talks to our very special Little Masons program”

CLOSURE AT SAN JUAN NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE’S, CASTILLO SAN FELIPE DE EL MORRO
Superintendent Walter J. Chavez announces that during the Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastian celebration, areas of the grounds of Castillo San Felipe del Morro will be closed to the public. This closure will remain in effect each day January 15-19th from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am and federal law (36 CFR 1.5) will be strictly enforced.

2014 Artisans in December at Castillo San Cristobal
San Juan National Historic Site announces “Artisans in December” to be held December 13-14, 2014 at Castillo San Cristobal. This is the third consecutive year the park has hosted artisans in December. The park will welcome a select group of local artisans to showcase and sell their art work. The “Artisans in December” program will be available from 9 am to 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday on Placita Norzagaray (next to the historical entrance).

PASEO DEL MORRO INAUGURATION AND FREE FEE DAY
San Juan, PR. –San Juan National Historic Site will inaugurate the latest phase of the Paseo del Morro. The Paseo del Morro is a Nationally Designated Trail, designated in 2001, internationally recognized which aims to connect, natural, cultural and historic areas of the communities of Old San Juan, La Perla and Puerta de Tierra. The inauguration Ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 4th, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. This latest completion of the trail will allow visitors to experience the spectacular walls of Castillo San Felipe del Morro in a way that was not possible before. “On Saturday visitors can enter the fortification of El Morro from the Paseo del Morro”, announced Superintendent Walter J. Chavez. Entrance fees on this day will be waived in conjunction with the Inauguration’ added Chavez.

Improvement To Visitor Center Parking Facilities At Castillo San Cristobal
San Juan, PR – Construction and improvements to the Visitor Center parking lot will begin on June 2, 2014. For the next 3 weeks the Visitor parking lot at Castillo San Cristobal located on Avenida Muñoz Rivera will be closed. Access will be limited to pedestrians and official vehicles only. Tour busses will drop off their clients at the entrance to the parking lot and will need to relocate until it is time to pick up their guests.
