Washington, D.C. - Beginning Monday, October 15, 2012, the National Park Service (NPS) will resume construction activities along Rock Creek Parkway at Waterside Drive, N.W. During this construction period the left curb lane traveling southbound on Rock Creek Parkway will be closed approaching Waterside Drive. Motorists can expect southbound lane closures to accommodate road work. Expect traffic delays.
Work will include repairs to the stream banks on both east and west sides of Rock Creek, widening and extending the travel lane from Waterside Drive onto southbound Rock Creek Parkway, install new drainage inlets, curb and gutter, lighting and asphalt pavement, as well as continuing work on new light poles already installed.
Construction crews will work Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Weekend lane closures will occur Friday 7:00.p.m. to Monday 5:00 a.m. Expect lane adjustments during AM and PM rush hours. Motorist will be allowed to use one northbound to go south during AM rush hour. A minimum of one lane will remain open in the southbound lanes at all times.
The planned completion for all work is December 2012.
Signs and variable message boards will be posted for lane closures and delays at various times and locations during the entire construction process.
As with all road construction projects, inclement weather may require adjustments to the schedules, including the possibility of postponement. The NPS will continue to inform the public and the media of any adjustments in the work schedules. Every effort will be made to minimize traffic delays and accomplish the work in a timely manner. The NPS regrets any inconvenience and appreciates all motorists' understanding and patience.
