Prince William County, Virginia
The Civil War affected every man woman, and child in Prince William County. Two of the most significant battles of the Civil War were fought in Manassas, and Prince William County is home to several other important Civil War sites. In 2006 Prince William County opened six historic sites for public use. The county is working to tell the story of its Civil War history alongside the battlefields preserved by the National Park Service, and the NPS is providing funds to help. A Preserve America grant was used to share the story of the area in a variety of formats. In the traveling trunk series, for example, schoolchildren step into the shoes of both Union and Confederate Soldiers.
