Thanks to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), the former Indiana Army Ammunition Plant in southern Indiana became the Charlestown State Park. Initially, the National Park Service’s Federal Lands to Parks Program transferred 858 acres to form the park, and the state later expanded the park to 5,100 acres. The park includes overlooks of the Fourteenmile Creek valley and the Ohio River. The park offers camping and hiking trails through karst topography with limestone cliffs and fossils.
