Anacostia, Washington, DC
In 2010, Groundwork USA brought 70 young people from across the country to help restore the Anacostia River. They picked up trash, tested water quality, and improved trails at Kenilworth Park. Members of Groundwork Anacostia Trust and employees of local and federal agencies joined the youth and concerned citizens in this watershed service project. The National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program provides organizational and technical support for Groundwork Anacostia, and supports supporting the establishment of new trusts in distressed environmental communities across the country.
