Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
After the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base closed in 1993, the National Park Service deeded 292.44 acres of the former base to the City of Myrtle Beach, SC, through its Federal Lands to Parks program. The city converted this acreage into a regional park, which now offers such amenities as a gymnasium, ball field complex, youth athletic fields, recreation center, duck pond, and the well-known Whispering Pines Golf Course.
