Roosevelt Roads Conservation Land

Puerto Rico preserves Laura Magruder Aereas conservation land from Naval Station Roosevelt Roads.

Ceiba, Puerto Rico

For 60 years, the U.S. Navy protected some 2,986 acres of river, shore, estuary, and wetlands that were part of the Roosevelt Roads Naval Station. Now the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico has acquired these resources at no cost through the National Park Service's Federal Lands to Parks program. The Puerto Rico Conservation Trust and the DNER are partnering to develop and manage the property. It is expected that hiking, bicycle, and nature trails will be constructed through this outstanding natural landscape to facilitate such activities as environmental education and interpretation, wildlife observation, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
