In 2010, the River of Grass Greenway was awarded $1 million to plan and develop a non-motorized transportation and recreation corridor across the Everglades. The pathway will connect this unique natural resource with the densely populated east and west coasts of southern Florida, including Collier and Miami-Dade counties. The River of Grass Greenway will provide multiple-use recreational access to a variety of public lands, including Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve. The National Park Service River, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program facilitates this multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional project by encouraging stakeholders to maintain a common vision and by writing and administering major grants.
