The Apollo Theater has been a showcase for African American talent since 1934. Renowned artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, James Brown, and Gladys Knight launched their careers at the Apollo’s legendary Amateur Night. A recent rehabilitation provided a face-lift for this cornerstone of New York City’s Harlem neighborhood and prepared the historic venue to build on its legacy for decades to come. Restoration of the façade included restoring the historic sign and installing an electronic marquee resembling the historic 1940s sign panels. On the interior, new state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems enhance the experience for both performers and the audience.
