Black Canyon City, Arizona
The National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program helped the Black Canyon community turn a 25-acre zone of bare land into a park. The restored area covers 23.5 acres of riparian desert (desert next to a water source) and 1.5 acres of manmade streams and ponds that are home to endangered native Arizona fish. RTCA worked with the community to organize the project, develop a plan for visitors, and identify and obtain sources of funding. With this support, Black Canyon City received over $500,000 in grant money. Locals, visitors, and wildlife enjoy the restored natural space.
