Porter, Indiana
National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program staff helped the Northwest Indiana Paddling Association gather GPS data to determine the work needed to open a mile-long stretch of the Little Calumet River in Porter, Indiana to paddlers. NPS RTCA staff facilitated partnerships and conducted trainings for logjam removal efforts, in coordination with the Blueways Stewardship Group, the Wildlife Habitat Council, and Town of Porter. This is a promising first step for opening safe access to over 14 miles of the river.
