Newfound Lake Pathways

Newfound Lake Relay

Hebron, New Hampshire

With help from the National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program, the Newfound Lake Pathway Committee was organized in 2010 with the single purpose of creating an 18-mile multi-use pathway around Newfound Lake. A strong board of trustees was elected, volunteers recruited, and grants secured to hire an engineering firm to produce a conceptual plan for the trail. Many events drew attention to local road safety issues, including a lake tour organized by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation’s Bike/Pedestrian Coordinator and a relay race organized by the five summer camps around the lake and NPS Student Conservation Association Youth Interns. Called ”Uniting Youth around Newfound Lake,” this event was particularly effective in bringing the lake community together to support the new pathway.
