From Riverwest to Downtown
The Beerline Trail in Milwaukee was difficult to construct, but worth the wait. The 4,000-foot-long trail was once a rail line that brought the raw ingredients for beer into the city. Now, it gives commuters, festival attendees, and others a safe way to get into the city without a car. Constructing the trail was complicated, and the NPS Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program helped organize three-way urban land swap and a federal highway grant. Hikers, bikers, and others can now enjoy this preserved community space.
