Hinchliffe Stadium

Hinchliffe Stadium

Paterson, New Jersey

Hinchliffe Stadium served as home field for the New York Black Yankees for all but one season from 1933 to 1945. Hinchliffe is one of very few surviving regular home fields for a Negro League baseball team. The cast-concrete, 10,000-seat Art Deco-style stadium contains both a field and a track, and was the site of a number of momentous sporting events, including automotive and motorcycle racing. During the 1940s, the Andrews Sisters and Abbott and Costello performed here, and Duke Ellington performed one of his last concerts here in 1971.
