Hartford, Connecticut
61 Mahl Avenue
The Marietta Canty House in Hartford, Connecticut is significant primarily for its association with actress Marietta Canty (1905-1986) who was admired for her performances in the theater, on the radio, in motion pictures and television as well as for her political and social activities. Built about 1897, the Marietta Canty House is a two-and-one-half story vernacular Queen Anne residence commissioned by developer Frederick Mahl. Mahl constructed a street of other two-family dwellings between 1893 and 1898.
