The State of Kansas received two major Preserve America grants. The first supports efforts on both the state and local levels to promote 18 historic sites that tell the stories of the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California Trails, and the Pony Express, Native Americans, Bleeding Kansas, westward expansion, populism and progressivism, and state government. The second grant provides $114,866 in seed money that will be combined with $188,729 in matching funds for new exhibits at the Fort Hayes State Historic Site Guardhouse.
