Overview
The Museum Preventative Maintenance volunteer assists park staff in preserving the park's natural, historical, and cultural history by helping to preserve the park's museum collections.
Duties
- Assist curatorial staff in monthly cleaning of the park's museum storage facility, including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and gathering environmental data
- Gather environmental data and clean exhibits at visitor centers
- When needed, assist curator with cleaning the lighthouse
- Other duties as assigned
Volunteers must have experience with tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, dusting; working around museum objects or in a similar kind of environment; and good manual dexterity and attention to detail
Schedule and Time Commitment
The Museum Preventative Maintenance volunteer works a minimum of 16 hours per month, Monday through Friday.
Training
Training in proper use of equipment and handling of museum objects will be provided as necessary.
Benefits to the Volunteer
The volunteer will receive the opportunity to work with museum staff and get up close and personal with museum objects. The volunteer will also gain personal enrichment and experience working behind the scenes in a museum environment and in a national park setting.
