Summer Junior Ranger Programs

(MUNISING, Mich.)  Summer Junior Ranger programs are offered this June at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The programs will be held June 8 and 9 and June 15 and 16. Alger County children entering grades 4 through 7 are invited to attend.

Explorations to Miners Castle, Beaver Basin, Grand Sable Dunes and the Au Sable Light Station with Ranger Dave are planned. Junior Rangers will be hiking, canoeing, learning about animals and plants, and playing outdoor games.

Registration is required and limited to the first 25 students to enroll. Please complete the registration form available from Alger Parks and Recreation Department, 413 Elm Avenue, Munising, MI 49862; telephone 387-5636. The fee for the program is $20; please make the check out to Alger Parks and Recreation Department.

Transportation is included in the registration fee. Altran will pick up/drop off students at the Deerton School, Au Train Grocery, Central School, Superior Central School, and Shingleton Grocery.

Park Rangers are prepared to enjoy and experience the outdoors in all weather. Program participants should bring a hat, sunscreen, water, lunch, bug repellent, rain gear, and clothes and shoes that can get wet and muddy. The Junior Ranger programs will be held whatever the weather.

Participants will earn a resource keeper bead showing that they have learned the main ecology idea for each session and a junior ranger badge if they have not earned one previously.
