Petrified Forest, AZ― Come spend the day at Petrified Forest National Park!  On Sunday, August 9, Park Ranger Adrian Flores will be conducting an all day excursion at the park.  There will be opportunities to “get off the beaten path” and discover fantastic areas of the park where the hidden stories will be shared by Park Rangers, Scientists, and others who are experts in their fields. Some of the stops will include:

Paleontology Lab
A professional fossil preparator will reveal how fossils are removed from their encasement of rock to become the beautiful specimens on exhibit in museums.

Painted Desert Inn
The Civilian Conservation Corp, Route 66, and Harvey Girls all played a roll in the story of this old building.  Step back in time and recapture another era!

Pintado Point
How can these beautifully painted hills be called “badlands?”

Route 66
Learn about America’s most famous highway and the legacy it left behind.

Puerco Pueblo
Days and times of the Ancestral Pueblo people.  What was life like back then?

Blue Mesa
Hear from an expert on geologic mapping and discover the secrets that Blue Mesa holds.

Crystal Forest
How does wood turn to stone?  Why is the rock so colorful?  Why did petrification of trees happen here?

Rainbow Forest Museum
What kind of animal is that?  Is it a crocodile? Is it a bird? Is it a dinosaur? Is it a mammal?  Find out directly from the park Paleontologist!

It will be a fun-filled, educational day, packed full of fascinating science, intriguing mysteries, wonderful history and spectacular views.  This is an all day excursion and will require good footwear for walking, sun protection, a lunch, and at least 2 quarts of water.  Reservations are strongly recommended.
