North Cascades National Park Service Complex has compiled a summary of all comments received during the Stehekin River Corridor Implementation Plan public scoping period. This summary can be viewed online at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/noca. Seventy-three people attended the three public meetings held in January as part of the public scoping process to help identify initial concerns and action items. In addition, 21 people submitted written comments, which combined with the comments from the meetings resulted in more than 440 comments on more than 30 topics. These topics ranged from the scope of the planning effort to the management of large woody debris to the pros and cons of revising the Land Protection Plan (LPP).

This public input was sought as the first step in the planning and environmental impact analysis process to guide future management of lands in the lower Stehekin River corridor within Lake Chelan National Recreation Area in response to repeated flooding.

Based on these comments, National Park Service staff is developing alternative management strategies, site specific actions, and proposed revisions to the LPP. A newsletter outlining these actions under a range of alternatives and a map depicting potential changes to the LPP will be distributed later this summer. The second public involvement period will then begin and include public workshops in Stehekin and Seattle. Specific dates, times and locations of these workshops will be announced in late August.
