Safety

The National Park Service and its partners are committed to providing a safe experience for visitors. Here are some tips for a safe and enjoyable visit to New Philadelphia:
  • Stay on paths.
  • Paths throughout the park have irregular surfaces and may become icy during winter.
  • Dress appropriately for the weather. Summers in western Illinois are hot and humid. Drink plenty of fluids during hot summer weather. Winters can be cold and windy. Find a weather forecast on our current conditions page.
  • Because there are no indoor facilities, pay close attention to the weather and seek shelter immediately in case of lightning, thunderstorms, or tornados.
  • Always lock your vehicle and stow any valuables out of sight.
  • Do not climb on trees, fences, or stone features.
  • Do not enter any buildings.
  • This is a native habitat for bees, wasps, gnats, mosquitos, poison ivy, and snakes.
  • There is private property surrounding the site; be mindful of fences and signage to remain in the public area.
  • Call 911 in an emergency.
