It lies between the Mississippi and Illinois rivers near Interstate 72. Hannibal, Missouri, is 27 miles west. Springfield, Illinois, is 76 miles east. St. Louis is about 115 miles south.

The site is open all days of the year. Visitors may explore the grounds, augmented reality walking tour, and information kiosk at any time of day.
The New Philadelphia Association, a local non-profit partner group, offers guided tours. Call their toll-free number for more information: (833) 582-9622. Admission is free. An entrance pass is not required to visit New Philadelphia National Historic Site.

There are no indoor facilities on site. Plan ahead and dress appropriately for potential weather. Spring Springtime brings moderate temperatures between 50° F (10° C) and 70° F (21° C). Early Spring tends to be dry. Late Spring brings rain and potential of severe weather, like thunderstorms. Summer Summers can be very humid with intense sun. Average temperatures vary from highs near 95° F (35° C) to lows near 60° F (15° C). Be prepared for sudden rainstorms and thunderstorms. Severe weather, including tornados, can occur. Fall Autumn is mild, but temperatures can vary. Highs can range from the 70°s F (21° C) to the 30°s F (-1° C). Dress in layers and be prepared for rain and wind. Winter Winters are cold. Lands within the historic site boundary are in the process of transferring to the National Park Service. Different areas may be under different ownership. Each may have specific rules. Please contact the park for information about filming or hosting events. There is no staffed visitor center at New Philadelphia. Visitors can go to the entrance kiosk for brochures, wayside exhibits, scenic views, and public WiFi.
Lincoln Home National Historic Site Currently, the Lincoln Home National Historic Site visitor center serves as a contact station for New Philadelphia. Lincoln Home is located in Springfield, Illinois, 84 miles east of the site. Brochures are available under the digital displays. Books about New Philadelphia and Passport stamps are available in the bookstore. Ask the salesperson for the New Philadelphia stamp. Public Wi Fi is provided by the New Philadelphia Association. It is available at the entrance kiosk. The password is Frank1836.
