Missouri National Recreational River
Directions

Getting There

Note Temporary Closure: The Meridian Bridge (US 81) will be closed to all vehicles beginning the morning of June 17 and lasting for about two weeks.  Temporary repairs to this historic bridge make the closure necessary. The nearest detour is across the Gavins Point Dam, about four miles to the west.  The detour route will be signed.  Recreational vehicles over ten tons will be allowed across the dam; however, commercial vehicles in excess of ten tons will have to cross the Missouri River either over the Chief Standing Bear Memorial Bridge (between Niobrara, NE, and Running Water, SD) or the Mulberry Bend Bridge (between Vermillion, SD, and Newcastle, NE).

By Car

The following are directions to the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center, the main contact point for the park.

From Yankton: Cross the Missouri River on US81 South. After 2 miles turn right (heading west) onto Nebraska Route 121. Follow this route, turn left after 4 miles and drive to the top of the hill. The visitor center parking lot entrance is on the right.  Or

From Yankton: Take South Dakota Route 52 west from Yankton six miles to the road that crosses the dam (Crest Road). Turn left onto the Crest Road (heading south) and follow this road until you come to Nebraska Route 121. Turn right and drive up the hill. The visitor center parking lot entrance is on the right.

From US81 South: Drive north on US81 toward Yankton. Turn left onto Nebraska Route 121 and continue on this route until you reach the visitor center parking lot entrance.

Public Transportation
No public transportation is available within the park corridor. Limited taxi service is available in Yankton (605/665-2777 or 605/665-4551).
