The National Park Service is partnering with the Washington State Patrol in a criminal investigation of an incident that took place on September 14, 2013 in Kettle River Campground within Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area.

Due to concurrent jurisdiction, both the State of Washington and the federal government have the right to conduct a criminal investigation to determine if state and federal regulations have been violated, and are coordinating closely in their efforts.

Additionally, as is standard after any incident involving serious use of force, the National Park Service is completing an internal administrative investigation into the incident. Results of the internal investigation are legally considered an extension of an employee's personnel file and, as such, are protected from public disclosure by the Privacy Act.
