Park Visitor Center Lesson Plans

Would you like to bring your class to the Calumet Visitor Center? We have created pre- and post-visit lesson plans with you in mind. Pre- and post-visit activity guides for students in 2nd and 4th grade include topics ranging from immigration and community life, to world-wide economics and war. Students are encouraged to become engaged through questions leading to higher-order thinking, class and small group discussions, and hands-on activities.

Teaching With Historic Places (TwHP)

In this lesson, students visit the Quincy Mining Company Historic District (National Historic Landmark) and learn about the early 20th century copper industry and mining, immigration, and labor unrest in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. Staff from Keweenaw National Historical Park assisted in the production of this lesson and it is the first Teaching with Historic Places lesson plan to feature a historic place in Michigan. Access the Quincy #2 Lesson Plan.
