Entrance-fee waivers are granted to bona fide academic institutions that are using the park to study park resources. In accordance with 36 CFR 71.13 (d), three criteria must be met before a fee waiver can be granted:

  1. The college or university must be recoginized as an academic institution by a federal, state or local government entity.
  2. The purpose of the proposed visit must be for education or scientific study.
  3. The purpose of the visit must directly relate to the resources of the park.

Please fill out the fee-waiver application and either email it, fax it (760-367-5586), or mail it to: Fee Supervisor, Joshua Tree National Park, 74485 National Park Drive, Twentynine Palms, CA 92277.

In most cases your application must be received at least 30 days prior to your proposed visit. If approved, the application will be signed and returned to you.

Applications cannot be approved at the park entrance stations or visitor centers. Verbal waivers will not be granted.

Each vehicle must have a copy of the waiver in their possession during their entire visit. Students arriving without the waiver will be charged an entrance fee.
