Philadelphia: Today marked the start of Freedom Week activities at Independence National Historical Park and we're off to a great start! In celebration of our nation's birthday, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell Center will be open until 8:00 pm through July 4. Free, timed tickets for Independence Hall are available at the Independence Visitor Center at 6th and Market Streets. Tickets can "sell out" early, so visitors are encouraged to start the day at the visitor center. No tickets are required for the Liberty Bell Center, and no tickets are required to visit Independence Hall after 5:00 pm.
Temperatures have been high, so visitors are encouraged to dress in light, loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. There are many places to keep cool in the park - stop by the Second Bank of the United States and the Printing Office in Franklin Court.
Highlights for July 1 include the Twilight Tour offered by the Friends of Independence and the Jefferson in Philadelphia program in Declaration House. All programs are free. Check at the Independence Visitor Center or visit the park website at www.nps.gov/inde for more information and times, as well as to learn about the many Freedom Week activities planned in celebration of the Fourth of July.
The park has implemented additional safety measures to ensure that all interpretive programs and planned events are successful. Thank you to all park visitors for complying with these rules. Come on out for another revolutionary Fourth of July.
