Intent to Burn

Horseshoe Bend National Military Park will be implementing its' Prescribed Burn Plan, weather permitting, starting April 22, 2015. The burn area will be located southwest of the Visitor Center and Tour Road entrance. The burning is being conducted to reduce fuel levels and to promote regeneration of the remaining longleaf pines that are present.

The Park will be assisted by members of the Great Smoky Mountain's Fire Use Module, a group of specialists that assist parks throughout the Southeastern United States. If weather is favorable expect to see smoke along Alabama 49 and Tallapoosa 79, in the Park.
