Die Stamp and Button

Rollover image to zoom

The heavy metal stamp bearing the stag’s head crest of the Ridgely family was used to create buttons. According to family members, the buttons were originally used on servants' clothing, particularly for house servants such as the butler. This practice continued well into the 20th century at Hampton.
