When little or no information about
the proposed wayside exhibits is known, it is recommended that a cost
of $7,000 per exhibit be used to prepare budget proposals. |

Cost Estimating
The following information is intended to assist in estimating the
cost to plan, design, and fabricate wayside exhibits. The accuracy
of such projections depends largely on the extent of the information
available about the proposed exhibits. Given the many variables
involved (size, materials, content development, etc.) making long-range
estimates is very difficult. When little or no information about
the proposed exhibits is known, it is recommended that a cost of
$7,000 per exhibit be used to prepare budget proposals.
Planning
The cost of planning a wayside exhibit ranges between $500 and
$1,500 per exhibit panel. Full planning typically includes travel
to the park by the planner, selection of exhibit locations, determination
of the interpretive intent of each exhibit, and production of a
document—called the Wayside Exhibit Proposal—which describes
the proposed exhibits. Upon approval of the proposal, other tasks
include subject matter research, development of the exhibit’s
graphic content (photographs, illustrations, maps, etc.), preparation
of exhibit text, production of a document—the Wayside Exhibit
Plan—that depicts the content and appearance of each exhibit
being developed, and coordination of the review and revision of
the plan prior to exhibit fabrication. Learn

Design & Pre-production
The cost of designing a wayside exhibit ranges between $500 and
$1,500 per exhibit panel. Design typically includes travel to the
park by the designer to contribute to the development of the Wayside
Exhibit Proposal described above. Upon approval of the proposal,
design tasks include production of a concept layout depicting the
content and appearance of each exhibit, and preparation of digital
production files needed to fabricate the exhibit panels. Learn

Illustrations and Maps
Exhibit prices and time can increase dramatically if original illustrations,
diagrams, or complex maps are needed. And, since original illustrations
and maps are considered additional products that hold their own
value outside of use on wayside exhibits, they are priced separately.
