We suggest you begin by contacting Harpers Ferry
Center. You will be put in touch with a staff member who can learn
what you need and when you need it. We’ll give you an idea
of what we can do and the time involved. Unfortunately, we cannot
do all the work everyone wants us to do as soon as they want it,
but we will work closely with you to get you a publication as quickly
as possible. Contact Us »
We begin by assigning a new project to an HFC team: a designer,
cartographer, and writer-editor. The early contact will be from
the writer-editor, who works with the person in charge of the project
at your park. We send you a “Background Report for a New Park
Publication” with questions to help you define your audience,
decide how it relates to your other publications and information
media, and understand what resources we will need. Background

Once we understand your needs based on the questionnaire and our
conversations with you, we work out a development and production
schedule with you to establish deadlines for the various stages.
All of this will be formalized in a Project Agreement, signed by
all parties, which will clearly set out what everyone expects from
the project. See “Making a Brochure, Step by Step” for
a closer look at the process from planning to printing. Making
