Maps
The maps produced by Harpers Ferry Center are precise, accurate,
and up-to-date representations of the national parks and the areas
around them. HFC cartographers, working with park staffs, are selective
in what they include in the maps, showing only what is needed to
help the visitor at the park and the reader at home. The resulting
clean and uncluttered appearance, the use of shaded relief to indicate
terrain, and carefully chosen colors make them attractive and easy
to use.
The historical maps illustrate such concepts as the route of Coronado’s
expedition, the stages of the siege of Vicksburg, and the course
taken by the Johnstown Flood.
Most official National Park Service maps have been converted to
digital files. These maps are available for downloading in both
Acrobat PDF and Adobe Illustrator formats from the NPS Maps section
of this website. These digital files can be put to any number of
uses by parks: conversion to black and white for use in the park
newspaper or in a site bulletin; adaptation for use in an indoor
exhibit, wayside exhibit, or AV presentation; or enlargement for
use as a visitor center wall map. They can also be used by commercial
publishers. NPS Maps »
