This laboratory performs detailed analyses of objects and scientific research related to conservation treatment, artifact technology, provenance and/or authentication. Object analysis methods include optical microscopy and microchemical testing, colorimetry, thin-layer chromotography, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, metallography, and paint cross-section analysis. The technical information gained from these analyses supports interpretive programs in the parks.
